Centennial Coal Company Limited

100 vehicles
430 tonnes of CO2-e

Centennial Coal Company Limited ("Centennial") has 12 coal mines in NSW which provide coal to fuel approximately 47% of NSW electricity generation. The majority of the operations are underground mines, with the Company also operating two small open cut mines. With over 1,700 employees, Centennial has operations in the Newcastle Coalfields (Lake Macquarie and Central Coast) and the Western Coalfields.

Centennial is committed to continual improvement in environmental management of its operations and to practical implementation of sustainable development activities. One of the Company's core values is investing in initiatives that aspire towards a cleaner environment.

As part of the assessment of Centennial's environmental performance and the objective of continual improvement, its motor vehicle fleet was identified as a contributor to the Company's environmental footprint. With geographically diverse operations, our management team travels by road extensively throughout NSW. There are 99 road registered vehicles in Centennial's fleet.

By joining the Greenfleet programme not only have the CO2 emissions for all of these vehicles been offset, but the tree planting by Greenfleet also achieves environmental benefits through salinity management, improving water quality and providing essential habitat for native species.

In addition, Centennial has several significant greenhouse mitigation schemes under development and/or in operation (eg methane reuse for power generation). Centennial also supports various environmental research programmes e.g. it contributes to the Coal 21 Programme, which has been established to investigate clean coal technologies.
