Carbon Offset
1,296 tonnes CO2-e

Able are proactive in managing the environmental impact of their activities.  Some of the key measures that have been introduced are detailed below.

Carbon offsets and tree planting

Able are audited by Ecovantage each year.  Ecovantage independently calculate Able's CO2 emissions.  These calculations include Able's CO2 emissions associated with the manufacturing of its products, ocean freight, warehousing, distribution, office overhead and travel.

In November 2009, Able commissioned the planting of 7,463 trees* with Greenfleet.  In December 2010, a further 4,146* trees were commissioned.  As they grow, these plantings will offset CO2 emitted in the products that Able supply to clients.

Information on CO2 and carbon offsets

At the end of each month (from 4 January 2010), Able has been notifying clients of their individualised monthly and year-to-date CO2 emissions.
This system charts a client's individual products usage patterns and provides an overall amount of CO2 emitted and offset by Able.

Biodegradable products

Able is now supplying products, including aprons and rubbish bags, which are both biodegradable and carbon neutral.

Eco Warranty Accreditation

Able is now entering its 3rd year of Eco Warranty Accreditation. This is an independently audited standard which identifies environmental impacts and provides a framework for their management. This is audited by British Standards International, who also audit the company's HACCP and ISO9001:2008 systems.

Education and awareness

Able have been involved in raising awareness about the environmental impacts of business via its website. The Able Carbon Neutral Blog traces our steps to sustainability over the last 3 years and the Knowledge Base area provides information on carbon offsets, tree planting and recycling. Able have also been involved as a panel member in a "Greening Your Business" function run by the City of Stonnington.

* Note:   This number of trees is a reasonable estimate of the number of trees required to be initially planted to sequester the total quantity of carbon purchased and takes into account that not all trees initially planted will survive due to the natural survival rate of trees.  Accordingly, trees that do not survive following initial plantation may not necessarily be replanted.

Greenfleet's commitment to recapture carbon on behalf of our supporters involves the management of native forests across all our planting sites. Greenfleet's forest pool is forecast to meet its overall carbon commitments to supporters.
