Bankstown City Council
Event Offset
268 tonnes CO2-e
Bankstown City Council's annual Australia Day celebration at Garrison Point on the Georges River, attracts around 35,000 patrons. This is the third year that Council has offset emissions generated by the rides, fireworks, stage shows, travel, food and waste that are all part of the celebrations.
As 2011 is the International Year of Forests, it is fitting that approximately 1,000 trees will be planted by Greenfleet to assist in offsetting the event. This will be the equivalent of removing 268 tonnes of CO2-e from the atmosphere.
Through action, leadership and advocacy, Bankstown City Council is preparing our community for a future heavily impacted by climate change. Council has adopted the 'Bankstown Environmental Action Plan' which has a target of 20% reduction in Council's CO2-e emissions by 2020 (based on 2010 levels).
Our goal is to make Bankstown a low carbon community.
