200 vehicles
911 tonnes CO2-e
The City of Boroondara recognises that climate change is a serious environmental problem facing our community. Boroondara was one of the first Councils to commit to participating in the Cities for Climate ProtectionTM (CCP) program which motivates and supports local governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Boroondara adopted a Greenhouse Strategy in 2001 and is now preparing a Towards Carbon Neutrality Strategy.
Since joining the CCP program in 1999, Boroondara has introduced many initiatives to reduce greenhouse emissions and by 2006/07, Council had implemented over 180 corporate and community actions.
Boroondara's commitment to emissions reduction is continued with our subscription to Greenfleet. By July 2009 5,950 trees will have been planted which, as they grow, will offset Council's vehicle fleet emissions to the tune of by 1,556 tonnes CO2-e. The planting of trees through this program also assists in the restoration of our biodiversity. Boroondara now has its entire vehicle fleet signed up with Greenfleet.
The City of Boroondara is very proud of these achievements, and hopes to lead by example to encourage our community to help decrease emissions.
