Europcar has been named the World's Leading Green Transport Solution Company for the second time at the 2010 World Travel Awards ceremony in London this week.

Europcar has a large selection of vehicles with a reduced environmental impact and provides information about the greenhouse emissions of all vehicles within its fleet.

Europcar is also giving maximum visibility to the environmental features of vehicles, to encourage consumers to choose a 'greener' car when making reservations.

Of course, in addition to this, Europcar Australia promotes Greenfleet to customers, encouraging them to make a donation to help offset the emissions generated each time they hire a car.

The M1 Monash-CityLink-Westgate Upgrade project has also won an award in the innaugural ITS Australia National Awards

ITS stands for Intelligent Transport Systems and the awards have been developed to to recognise the contribution made by intelligent transport systems to creating a safer, greener, less congested and more efficient national transport system.

Project partners Transurban Ltd and VicRoads received the National ITS Australia Excellence Award for their work to better manage traffic flows and reduce congestion with the M1 Freeway Management System for Monash-CityLink-Westgate Upgrade.

By reducing stop-start traffic conditions and the facilitation of smoother traffic flows, the M1 upgrade is projected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with its use.  For example, a pilot of the Coordinated Freeway Ramp Signals, along a 15km stretch of road with six interchanges, suggested that higher lane volumes and increased peak hour speeds will lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 40 tonnes per day and fuel savings of 16,500 litres per day.

The M1 Upgrade Project also chose to offset the greenhouse gas emissions of their 109 vehicle fleet with Greenfleet in 2009.  And if you've exited at Kings Way you'll have seen the fantastic billboard promoting Greenfleet as well.
