The Australian Parliament is currently considering the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) legislation, and the Senate will shortly reconsider the legislation.
The CPRS allows for 'permits' to be generated from forests for growth past 1 July 2010. Each permit will be equivalent to 1 tonne CO2-e. In practice, a permit from a forest will be like a carbon credit, it is just called a permit.
The Government's decision to discontinue Greenhouse Friendly at 30 June 2010 means that the only way to certify that the carbon has been taken from the atmosphere in the forests will be through the CPRS.
So Greenfleet intends to 'opt in' our forests so we can certify their growth. As the carbon is measured from the growth in the forests, we intend to retire the carbon on your behalf so no-one else, not even the Government can count the carbon for themselves. That way, you can still be certain that your contributions to Greenfleet are making a difference.
Greenfleet believes that it is only a matter of time before the CPRS Bill or an equivalent scheme will become law.
Regardless of the delay, you can still make a difference by supporting Greenfleet to plant more trees. The trees won't wait for the politics to deliver, and climate change is such a challenging problem that the sooner we can take carbon from the atmosphere and restore habitat the better.
We can only do that with your continued support. So while our politicians argue amongst themselves, help get more action on climate change now. Support Greenfleet.
