Future Sparks exceed expectations

 

Teams cycling in the Future Spark challenge generated more energy than was required to power Melbourne's Earth Hour Concert on Saturday night.  The goal was to generate 50
kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy, but the Future
Spark Challenge actually generated more than 62 kWh.

Teams were given one hour to generate as much energy as they can by pedalling four bicycles hooked up to custom-built generators.  A team of Greenfleet staff and friends helped out by generating 463 watt-hours (Wh) of energy.

Some of Greenfleet's corporate supporters also jumped on a bike to contribute to the challenge and here are their results:

Team Monash (1) with 598 Wh, took out 7th place overall, while CSC's 548 Wh earned them 9th place overall and LeasePlan's 489 Wh earned first place in the automotive industry.

The team which took out overall honours, Total Rush (1), generated an impressive 680 Wh of energy.
