For the first time in four years Greenfleet has increased the price of its carbon offsets; effective 1 May 2008. The price of raw materials (seeds and saplings), fuel and labour have all increased considerably over the last four years and Greenfleet needs to meet these increased costs to continue reducing the impact of climate change and restoring Australia's natural habitats.
Greenfleet offsets remain excellent value for money and are amongst the lowest cost offsets available in the market place. Greenfleet is a not-for-profit organisation committed to putting every cent to good use, our Federal Government Greenhouse Friendly accreditation is your assurance of the quality of our operations.
From 1 May 2008, Greenfleet's standard vehicle offset will cost $51 for 17 trees ($3 per tree or $11.20/tCO2-e).
Based on the most recent ABS statistics (released October 2007), the average car driving on Australia's roads generates 3.9 tonnes of greenhouse gases (3.9 tCO2-e) per year.
To offset 3.9 tCO2-e, Greenfleet needs to plant 15 trees as part of a biodiverse native forest. However, Greenfleet has always planted 17 trees per year for the standard car and we will continue to do so. This provides a 10% buffer to allow for variation between vehicles, driving style and annual distance driven.
