Greenfleet Finalists in World Environment Day Awards

Greenfleet is delighted to be selected as a finalist in the UNAA (United Nations Association of Australia) World Environment Day Awards 2008. Greenfleet join two other organisations as finalists in the 'Sustainability Victoria - Meeting the Greenhouse Challenge' category.

Greenfleet CEO, Sara Gipton, stressed that the finalist position is a reflection of the tremendous efforts of the not for profit's supporters.

"This is recognition of the support provided to Greenfleet by both individuals and organisations. They have all taken a positive action to reduce their carbon footprint and make a real difference in the fight against climate change."

The prestigious awards are arranged by the UNAA to acknowledge actions being taken at a local level that have a global impact. The 2008 World Environment Day, themed 'Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy', focuses on taking responsibility to reduce our dependence on carbon as part of our lifestyles and working practices.

Sara added, "While Greenfleet is best known for its native tree planting programmes we see carbon offsetting as just the final stage in an ongoing commitment to Avoid and Reduce greenhouse gas emissions."

"There are numerous ways that each of us can make a significant difference to our carbon footprint. The changes required can be very simple and often save money as well as reducing emissions. I encourage everyone to learn more about their environmental impact and to take action today."

The winners of the 2008 awards will be announced at a presentation dinner on Friday 6 June.
