Splend plants 10,500 trees and counting

MEDIA RELEASE - 29 August 2017

The Aussie start-up provides a fresh take on vehicle management, with an environmental twist.

In just over 18 months, Splend has helped thousands of Australians access the economic opportunities provided by the Uber platform – by offering their Members low-cost, fuel efficient, and carbon offset rental vehicles, as well as the training and support needed to be successful on the road. When Members rent with Splend, carbon emissions from driving are offset through native reforestation projects by Greenfleet, Australia and New Zealand’s most trusted source of biodiverse carbon offsets.

To date, Splend’s contributions to Greenfleet has seen 10,500 native trees planted and the partnership is growing every month with new vehicles being added to the fleet.

Splend’s CEO, Chris King, said that offsetting the carbon emissions of Splend’s vehicles over the last 18 months was an important sustainability contribution to the community.

"I don’t think as a business today, or as an individual for that matter, you can afford not to be passionate about sustainability," Chris King explained.

"It was important for both our staff and our Member community to be a leader in environmental sustainability," Chris King said.

"Our partnership with Greenfleet allows us to offset our fleet’s carbon emissions by planting trees for every Splend car that we put on the road," Chris King continued.

"We work hard with our supporters operating in the share economy to close the loop with a responsible carbon offset program," explained Justin Glass, Corporate Relationships Manager at Greenfleet.

"Our partnership with Splend offers their customers the peace of mind knowing their car’s carbon emissions are offset with a trusted, reliable environmental organisation. It is a very positive partnership for both organisations and a great example of how Greenfleet is well positioned to provide practical and tangible carbon solutions."

"As they grow, the trees planted on behalf of Splend form biodiverse, self-sustaining forests which sequester carbon from the atmosphere, provide habitat for wildlife and restore Australia’s unique biodiversity," Justin Glass added.
