Another fantastic planting day – 850 native trees planted by our supporters

They say there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing! Here at Greenfleet we really put that to the test during our planting days. Our planting season runs throughout the cooler months of the year. This is when our supporters can join us to actively participate and see firsthand what their contributions mean on the ground.

With our New Zealand, Queensland and New South Wales planting days already completed, it was Victoria’s turn this month. 24 volunteers joined the Greenfleet team to help revegetate our property Wurneet Laang Laang, in South Gippsland, Vic.

Our supporters were welcomed with a crispy, cloudy, foggy morning, but they were all enthusiastic and ready for a day outdoors, in fresh clean air. The rain held off this year, but the gumboots came in handy (see, good clothing really does make all the difference).

We had crews from Europcar, Computershare, the duo from Northmost Studios and a team from Ferguson Plarre, who came bearing gifts in form of delicious baked goods. We certainly all appreciated the tasty treats throughout the day.

In just a few hours, the volunteers had covered the hill in specs of green. Together, the volunteers planted 850 native grasses along the hillside, with a range of native species, including Tall sadge (Carex appressa), Tussock grass (Poa labillardieri), Tasman Flax Lily (Dianella tasmanica) and Soft rush (Juncus effuses).

Those who shared their feedback would participate again in another planting day and recommend the event to their colleagues. Daniel Worthington, from Ferguson Plarre saying, "Thanks for the opportunity, can’t wait for the next one."

Planting days with Greenfleet are a great way for our business partners to engage staff with their organisation's environmental commitment, a fantastic team bonding experience and a hands-on opportunity to see what their donations look like on the ground. Our supporters leave knowing that in just one day, they have contributed to a more sustainable future and had a wonderful time doing so.

See below for some great shots from the day, and click here for more photos of our planting days. If your organisation is a supporter of Greenfleet and would like to participate in our next planting day, contact our Events & Engagement Coordinator, Taylor to find out more and register your interest for 2018.
