Right in the heart of the sharing economy, Splend is more than a vehicle-hire company for uberX drivers. The Aussie start-up provides a fresh take on vehicle management, with an environmental twist.

In just over nine months, Splend has helped more than 550 Australians access the economic opportunities provided by the uberX platform – by offering uberX applicants the option to access low-cost, fuel efficient, and carbon offset vehicles as a service. When customers rent with Splend, carbon emissions from driving are offset through Greenfleet‘s native reforestation projects.

At Splend, we are passionate about providing the share economy with only fuel efficient vehicles and essentially reducing private car ownership in Australia, which is beneficial to the environment. Corporate responsibility is a priority of Splend's business model which is why we've partnered with Greenfleet to plant trees for every car we put on the road – we're doing our bit to ensure a sustainable future for the communities in which we operate,” said Splend CEO, Chris King, recently listed in the SmartCompany Hot 30 Under 30 class of 2016.

We work hard with our supporters operating in the share economy to close the loop with a responsible carbon offset program,” explained Justin Glass, Corporate Relationships Manager at Greenfleet. “Our partnership with Splend offers their customers the peace of mind knowing their car’s carbon emissions are offset with a trusted, reliable environmental organisation. It is a very positive partnership for both organisations and a great example of how Greenfleet is well positioned to provide practical and tangible carbon solutions.

Collaborative consumption is booming at the moment and we welcome the positive impact it has on environmental sustainability. The sharing economy reduces the intensity of society’s impact on our planet,” Justin Glass added.
