Take Climate Action That Helps Our Native Wildlife

Australia’s koalas are at risk. Restoring legally protected native habitat is critical for their survival.

We need your help to plant legally protected native forests that will provide koala food and habitat.

Greenfleet has restored Australian native forests for over 25 years. So far, we’ve planted 10.8 million native trees and created 550+ legally protected, biodiverse forests.

With your support we can restore more biodiverse forests to create legally protected habitat for koalas and other precious native animals.

How Greenfleet Restores Koala Habitat

Deforestation is a major issue affecting koalas.

Greenfleet has planted legally protected habitat for koalas and other threatened wildlife for over 25 years.  In 2023 we planted 493 hectares of new koala habitat. Since 2021, our revegetation projects have included nearly 1,000 hectares of koala habitat to provide food and homes to these iconic animals.

Our unique approach to native ecosystem restoration means our forests are legally protected for up to 100 years. This ensures koala populations and other wildlife can thrive in our forests for generations.

Our expert Revegetation Team ensures that we plant locally native trees species at our restoration sites to provide wildlife habitat. For koalas, this means species like Blue Gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis) are included in our reforestation projects. Blue Gum is a preferred food source for koalas, insects and birds.

Over their lifetime, these trees can grow up to 50 metres tall with a trunk diameter of up to 2 meters making them an important addition to koala habitat.

Our Koala Habitat Restoration Projects

  • Our forest at Wurneet Laang Laang in VIC saw Strzelecki Koalas return within 3 years of planting.
  • At Koala Crossing we've planted nearly 100,000 trees on the largest remaining continuous stretch of open eucalypt forest in SE Queensland.
  • We are creating koala habitat in the Byron Hinterland in NSW at Anam Talamh
  • Our project at Hiddenvale in QLD is adjacent to vegetation that has known populations of koalas and integrates road safety with revegetation design to direct koalas to cross under the road safely.
  • We are improving connectivity of existing koala populations on the floodplain of the Wilson River at Greentrees in Northern NSW.
  • We are increasing biodiversity and koala habitat in partnership with Queensland Trust for Nature (QTFN) at Aroona in SE QLD.
  • We are restoring forest cleared a century ago at Ness Creek in Gippsland, VIC.
  • We are planting native species that will provide prime koala food and tree diversity at Dangerbridge in QLD.
  • We are supporting local koala populations through our project at Spurfield Rd in the Northern Rivers of NSW.
