After 7 years of service as Board Chair and 11 on the Board, Gunther Jurkschat has handed over the reins, and Dr Dominique Hes has become the Chair of Greenfleet's Board of Directors. Dr Hes’s appointment as Board Chair is particularly significant as it is the first time this post has been held by a woman in Greenfleet’s 23-year history.
Greenfleet is a leading Australian not-for-profit environmental organisation striving to protect our climate by restoring native biodiverse forests.
Dr Hes has demonstrated a commitment to sustainability, significant published works, and expertise in building industries including regenerative development, systems thinking, industrial ecology, and Eco-Design. She is very well-positioned to lead Greenfleet forward.
Dr Hes stated “it is an honour and a privilege to have been appointed Chair at such a critical time for our environment and for our capacity to contribute to its restoration. Particularly, I believe it is critical that this work engages respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, and this will be part of my focus over my first term. We as a Board will honour the great work Gunther has done during his term and build on the good name, excellent outcomes and long-term stability of Greenfleet”.
Greenfleet's vision is to become the leading environmental organisation empowering individuals, communities and companies to take tangible, effective and long-lasting environmental action, to mitigate the impacts of a changing climate, and to restore degraded ecosystems.
Dr Hes draws on experience as Director on multiple boards, including 3 years' service as a Greenfleet Board Director, and has degrees in science, engineering and a PhD in architecture.
Following the appointment, Greenfleet CEO Wayne Wescott stated “It is so important that we have a Chair of this intellectual stature who is well-known in the industry over the coming years as Greenfleet grows from a base that Gunther has been critical in developing”.
Greenfleet is Australia’s first carbon offset provider and since 1997 has planted over 9.6 million trees creating more than 500 forests in Australia and New Zealand.
