1997

  • The Greenfleet Project is launched and is the first organisation to reduce the impact of cars and transport on the environment through native revegetation projects.
  • First trees planted at Bass River, Vic
  • LeasePlan Australia signs up as Foundation Sponsor

1998

  • Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment starts offsetting emissions; in 2017, Disney Australia remains Greenfleet’s longest continuous corporate supporter 

2000

  • Greenfleet Australia, the independent organisation established 

2001

  • One millionth tree planted
  • Deductible Gift Recipient status gained - donations become tax deductible
  • Greenfleet listed on Register of Environmental Organisations 

2002

  • Launch of the first Greenfleet website

2003

  • Greenfleet Class introduced to the World Solar Challenge to showcase fuel-efficient cars & low-carbon fuels
  • Emerging Transport Technologies Conference held with Greenfleet, CSIRO & World Solar Challenge
  • Workplace giving program launched with Telstra

2004

  • Greenfleet releases the Tree Totaller - an online emissions calculator for vehicles, flights & utilities developed with Alan Pears
  • Holden & Scouts Australia team up with Greenfleet for Murray Darling Rescue

2005

  • 2 millionth tree planted
  • ‘Race to 5,000’ supporter drive launched by motor racing legend and Greenfleet patron, Peter Brock & Victorian Minister for Environment, John Thwaites
  • 2nd Emerging Transport Technologies Conference
  • Greenfleet Class features in World Solar Challenge
  • Greenfleet supporter mecu wins Gold Banksia Award with the Go Green Car Loan program

2006

  • Greenfleet Technology Trial and display at Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix

2007

  • 3 millionth tree planted
  • Greenfleet Class features in World Solar Challenge
  • 3rd Emerging Transport Technologies Conference
  • Europcar starts offsetting emissions associated with staff travel & launches customer donation program

2008

  • 4 & 5 millionth tree planted
  • Greenfleet becomes the first not-for-profit organisation to gain Greenhouse Friendly™ Approval for forest sink methodology
  • Finalist - World Environment Day Awards, Meeting the Greenhouse Challenge
  • Scouts & Greenfleet plant their 1,000,000th tree together for Murray Darling Rescue project
  • Greenfleet planting projects commence in the iconic Kosciuszko National Park, NSW

2009

  • First corporate ‘Drive Days’ organised
  • Smartsalary joins Greenfleet - Smartleasing customers offset the impact of their car travel
  • Greenfleet supporter Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses wins Gold Banksia Award

2010

  • 6 millionth tree planted
  • Bushfire Recovery Projects in Tarra Bulga, VIC & Kinglake National Park, VIC
  • ‘Your sustainable transport guide’ released

2011

  • 7 millionth tree planted
  • Address Senate Environment and Communications Legislation Committee, re: proposed Carbon Farming Initiative
  • Finalist - World Environment Day Awards, Biodiversity
  • Greenfleet & Parks Victoria celebrate the International Year of Forests with a community planting day sponsored by Hyundai & the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation 

2012

  • Greenfleet celebrates 15th Anniversary
  • Greenfleet becomes a Recognised Offsets Entity and has a registry account under the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI).
  • Greenfleet's new brand is launched

2013

  • 8 millionth tree planted
  • Greenfleet purchases first own property 'Avoca' in NSW
  • First projects registered under the CFI

2014

Greenfleet's project is the first reforestation project to be issued Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs)

2015

  • Greenfleet's first tree planting in New Zealand
  • Cardlink becomes our first supporter in New Zealand
  • Greenfleet is represented at the Paris COP

2016

  • Greenfleet purchases first own property 'Wurneet Laang Laang' in Victoria
  • Greenfleet's first Carbon Right registered in QLD
  • Greenfleet becomes the first organisation in Australia to be provided with Carbon Rights on Crown Land
  • Greenfleet leads successful consortium to win $12million funding for the Upper Stony Creek Restoration project

2017

  • Greenfleet turns 20
  • Greenfleet's Low Glow campaign is inaugurated

Originally developed as a project of The Foster Foundation, Greenfleet was launched in October 1997 to offer Australian motorists a tree-planting program to re-capture CO2 emissions, and promote fuel-efficient technologies to reduce emissions at the source. It was the first program of its kind, at a time when climate change was still a disputed phenomenon.
