For nearly 30 years, Greenfleet has been planting and protecting native forests across Australia and New Zealand to deliver climate action, restore ecosystems and support biodiversity. With more than 580 biodiverse forests now growing, International Day of Forests is a time for us to reflect the impact we’re making on our environment.
Held on 21 March, the International Day of Forests serves as a powerful reminder of how vital forests are. Across the globe, forest ecosystems support wildlife, communities, and our climate. To celebrate this day, Greenfleet is sharing some of the incredible transformations we’ve made with the help of our supporters.
Every Day Is Forest Day
For Greenfleet, every day is about restoring, protecting, and monitoring our 100-year protected native forests. As they grow, these forests remove carbon on behalf of our supporters, provide critical habitat for local wildlife, and help improve the health of soils and waterways.
Here are just some of Greenfleet’s incredible projects that are growing climate hope:
-
Strzelecki Nature Link, Vic
Learn moreBoonwurrung Country
Greenfleet's Strzelecki Nature Link project is creating 3.5 kilometres of legally protected habitat for koalas and other native species in Victoria’s South Gippsland region. Strzelecki koalas, descendants of Victoria’s original koala gene pool, have already been confirmed in its most established areas, while sugar gliders and native bird are utilising thermally regulated nesting boxes installed to accelerate biodiversity. Restoration will continue in 2026, with our focus is on improving water quality and reducing erosion within the Lang Lang River system.
-
Dangerbridge, Qld
Learn MoreKabi Kabi Country
A haven for native birds and koalas alike, this incredible project has been running for over 20 years. With over 30 locally native species planted here, including forest red gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis), the growing forest is supporting habitat for koalas and other wildlife. Classified as endangered in Queensland, the restoration of habitat for these animals in this region is more vital than ever. This forest is thriving thanks to Greenfleet’s partnership with landholder Jeni Nicholas, Noosa District Landcare Group and Queensland Trust for Nature.
-
Turkey Hill, NSW
Learn MoreDharug County
In the transition to a more sustainable future, climate action, restoration and agriculture must be able to work together. Located in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, Turkey Hill is demonstrating just that. With a combination of block plantings and shelterbelts, the project is helping to protect grazing animals while removing carbon and restoring habitat for the local birdlife. Planted in 2019, ongoing monitoring has shown that the site is establishing well. It will continue delivering critical climate action and improving land productivity as it grows.
-
Koala Crossing, Qld
Learn MoreYuggara Country
Located in South-East Queensland, Greenfleet has revegetated 95 hectares of native forest at Koala Crossing since 2016. The property forms part of the Flinders Karawatha Corridor, the largest remaining continuous stretch of open eucalypt forest in South East Queensland, and vital habitat for the regions endangered koalas. Locally sourced species were selected to restore the ecosystems that existed prior to land clearing, grow wildlife habitat and deliver climate action. Species like forest red gum (Eucalyptus terticornis) are fast growing and can form the forest canopy while creating habitat for koalas, birds, and flying foxes.

What Is The International Day of Forests? Â
Recognising the need to raise awareness about the value of forests worldwide, the United Nations General Assembly declared 21 March as the International Day of Forests in 2012.
The UN encourages communities across the globe to take action to protect and sustain our forests. People are invited to participate in local, national and global initiatives, including activities such as tree‑planting events, to support the health and future of forests. -
2026 International Day Of Forests Theme
The 2026 theme, Forests and Economies, highlights how forests drive economic prosperity for communities.
This is deeply connected to Greenfleet’s work. Wherever we can, we purchase, hire, and source locally from native plant nurseries, restoration specialists, equipment contractors, and ecological consultancies. In 2025, we invested nearly $2.8 million into regional economies to enable our revegetation operations and contributing to SDG 8, sustainable economic growth.
Grow Forests With Greenfleet Today
