It has never been more important to protect our environment and our planet. This World Environment Day, Greenfleet celebrates the work we are doing to restore native forests with our supporters, making a positive impact on our Earth.
This significant date is a reminder that we can all take steps to protect our environment and restore our ecosystems. By planting legally protected native forests, Greenfleet is removing carbon from the atmosphere, restoring nature, and growing hope for our climate.
The forests we restore are legally protected for up to 100 years to ensure we are making a long-term and positive impact on the environment.

What is World Environment Day?
Since 1973, World Environment Day has driven action on key environmental problems affecting the planet.
The day raises awareness about critical climate issues, from rising temperatures to the depletion of the ozone layer. The day has helped spur governments, businesses, civil society groups and individuals to act, and address these environmental challenges.
For Greenfleet, every day is about protecting the climate and restoring nature through our work. Days like this are an opportunity for us to reflect on the work we are doing with our supporters and the long-term impact we will have on our planet.

How Greenfleet Protects Our Environment
Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted more than 11.2 million native trees to create over 550 forests that will remove over 5 million tonnes of CO2-e across their lifetime.
The forests we plant sequester carbon from the atmosphere on behalf of our supporters. Even more importantly, they improve soil and water quality and build habitat for our precious wildlife.
Here are just some of the ways Greenfleet is protecting our environment
-
Restoring Over 550 Forests
Use our interactive map to find where Greenfleet’s forests are growing across Australia and New Zealand. Each project has a unique environmental goal and is testament to the different ecosystems found across these vast countries. The restoration of each of these forests is fully funded by our supporters who make our work possible.
-
100 Years Protection
Greenfleet legally protects all our forests for up to 100 years with an agreement on the land title. This ensures that our forests cannot be cut down, allowing them to capture more carbon and deliver benefits for the environment and wildlife as they mature. Some elements of native forests don’t occur for decades or longer, like tree hollows needed for small mammals and birds. This legal protection ensures the forests grow long enough for these to develop.
-
Large Scale Projects
Some of Greenfleet’s projects feature multiple sites that are interconnected, creating large scale opportunities for climate action and habitat restoration. These projects include The Strzelecki Nature Link on Boonwurrung Country in Victoria and Ivory Creek on Yuggera Country in Queensland, which, alongside all our forests, are working to combat the effects of climate change.

Growing Our Impact Each Year
Each year we plant new forests as we continue to deliver environmental action, and our annual Impact Report provides a comprehensive review of our work over the past 12 months. In 2025 Greenfleet will be restoring forests in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, adding to the 11.2 million trees we have planted so far.
World Environment Day Theme 2025
Greenfleet’s focus is on restoring and protecting native Australian forests, but we know that there are many issues that need to be addressed when protecting the environment.
This year’s theme for World Environment Day is #BeatPlasticPollution and calls for collective action to tackle plastic waste. Land, water and air continue to be adversely affected by excessive amounts of plastic waste and its production.
The forests that Greenfleet restores remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere as they grow, including those that may have been generated by plastic production and use. While we work to remove the carbon from the atmosphere, it also is vital that everyone plays their part in working to reduce their use of plastics as much as possible.
When we concentrate on beating plastic pollution, the benefits are far reaching, including creating cleaner oceans and lands, healthier ecosystems, and greater climate resilience.
