Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.
As temperatures reach record levels and extreme weather events intensify, we all have role to play in protecting our environment. World Environment Day is an opportunity to celebrate what we've achieved and acknowledge the work ahead as we make a difference for our planet.
Greenfleet is delivering authentic climate action, by planting native forests to restore nature and remove carbon. This year’s World Environment Day theme - Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future – is perfectly aligned to Greenfleet's purpose. Each tree we plant, each ecosystem that develops in a Greenfleet forest is legally protected for a healthier outlook for our planet, the climate and future generations.
What is World Environment Day?
World Environment Day is held annually on June 5 and is one of the world’s most celebrated days for the environment globally. Since 1973, this date has brought focus to drive action on key environmental issues affecting the planet.
For Greenfleet, every day is about protecting the environment but dates like this allow us to celebrate what we’ve achieved with our supporters. For nearly 30 years, we have enabled them to take critical climate action and restore nature by planting native Australian forests. This World Environment Day we reflect on our work so far, the work still ahead and the long-term impact we all have on our planet.
Greenfleet Is Inspired By Nature
-
Planting Trees
We carefully select trees to restore ecosystems originally grown on the site. Each forest is planted with a variety of species, creating the canopy, midstory and understory framework. We source seedlings from local nurseries, choosing indigenous species that will thrive in the environment.
-
Restoring Ecosystems
Our work not only removes carbon from the atmosphere, but it is also restoring biodiversity as it grows. Healthier ecosystems with richer biodiversity have greater environmental benefits, such as drawing down more carbon, creating more fertile soils, and improving air and water quality.
-
Growing Wilding Habitat
As our forests establish, the wildlife can return. The variety of native animals will increase, bringing in more seed and creating even greater biodiversity. This cycle helps the forest become self-supporting and more resilient over time.
For The Future
Every Greenfleet forest is legally protected for up to 100 years, ensuring they cannot be cleared for any reason and are protected for generations to come. Before this process, we actively restore each site with careful preparation, planting diverse local species, and undertaking continuous monitoring. Our forests are supported so they can store carbon, restore biodiversity, improve soils and waterways, and grow into resilient, self-sustaining ecosystems for the long-term future of our planet.
Growing Climate Hope
We began growing climate hope in 1997, initially by offsetting car emissions. Nearly 30 years on, our work now includes planting milestone forests, enabling 365 days of CarbonCover, and growing native forests to remove carbon generated from flights, EVs, AI, pets and more.
We have planted and protected over 11.7 million trees, creating 580+ native forests that will remove 6 million tonnes of carbon as they grow. We are expanding vital koala habitat and homes for native wildlife that will deliver lasting impact for nature.
We thank our dedicated supporters; it's with their commitment we can grow our climate impact over time.
Native Revegetation Projects Delivering Climate Action
-
Strzelecki Nature Link, VIC
Learn MoreLocated on Boonwurrung Country, the Strzelecki Nature Link is made up of four connecting properties in South Gippsland. Together they form the largest biodiversity project in the region and will create a 3.5-kilometre contiguous stretch of protected habitat for endemic Strzelecki koalas and other native wildlife.
-
Greentrees, NSW
Learn MoreGreentrees is growing on Bundjalung Country, within the Wilson River floodplain of Northern NSW. Nearly half of the trees planted are koala food trees, like forest red gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis), restored to extend their habitat. Despite flooding in the region, the planting continues to grow into a resilient, biodiverse forest.
-
Ivory Creek, QLD
Learn MoreGrowing on Yuggera Country, Ivory Creek is a large-scale project made up of four adjoining forests. While removing carbon on behalf of our supporters, this project is restoring biodiversity and improving water and soil quality. It will also grow to provide protected habitat for koalas and greater gliders, both of which are endangered in Queensland.
Take Climate Action This World Environment Day
